Not Ready for Google Drive? Grab Some Extra Dropbox Storage For Free Instead

If you can’t bring yourself to jump ship and hand over your data to Google, you can make your Dropbox experience a little better by increasing your storage for free.

Last month, Dropbox rolled out its Camera Upload feature to beta and Android users, and is available today in the latest stable release.  Dropbox will give you 500MB for each 500MB of pictures or videos you upload using Camera Upload, up to 3GB.

To use the Camera upload tool with the Windows desktop, grab and install the latest client, available here.  Once it’s finished installing, plug your camera or SD card with photos and videos into the computer and choose Import pictures and videos using Dropbox.

Clear the checkbox if you don’t want to have Dropbox automatically import when removable devices are connected.  Click Start Import to begin importing photos or videos.

Tip | If autoplay doesn’t open or won’t run on the drive, open Windows Explorer by going to Start > Computer , right-click the drive and choose Open AutoPlay.

Other Ways to Score More Storage

Take the Dropbox Tour

If you’re new to Dropbox and haven’t completed the tour, head on over to dropbox.com/gs and sign in.  Completing the tour will net you an extra 250MB.

Bug Your Friends

Hit up your friends for referrals to help you score an extra 500MB of space per referral (up to 16GB), which will in turn add 500MB to their account.

Go on a Quest

You can score an extra 1GB by completing Dropquest 2011.  Feel free to complete the quest on your own or cut out all the funny business and fix yourself and using a walkthrough.
